Freshwater Ecology
Welcome to Dr. Checo Colón-Gaud's Freshwater Ecology Lab web page. The lab is part of the Department of Biology at Georgia Southern University. The goal of our lab is to understand the factors that shape aquatic communities and how aquatic consumers interact with their environment and with each other to influence ecosystem processes. We employ field and laboratory methods to address both basic and applied topics in aquatic ecology. Research in our lab centers on the interactions between terrestrial and aquatic habitats, including nutrient and energy subsidies. In recent studies, we've quantified major energy flow pathways and aquatic consumer production in rivers, streams, and wetlands, and we are interested in the influence of natural and anthropogenic disturbances on these processes.
